DAMAGED ACCESS…
I am writing in regard to the condition of the boat ramp at the Ft. Casey State Park.
This is the only public boat ramp for us to access Admaralty Inlet’s west side of Whidbey Island.
The storms of last month totally destroyed the brakewater and the main dock.
We still have the cement ramp but even the pilings are questionable with at least one missing.
I have found that, listed on the State Parks website, the boat ramp is listed as closed due to storm damage.
I called the NW Regional office and they stated that it’s going to be a long while before that one is fixed. Like more than a year!
This dock boat ramp is used for emergency launch. Last year from the beach we called 911 to report a small boat adrift at the Point No Point area in shipping lanes just before dark. The 911 operator said the only place they could launch emergency personnel was from Ft. Casey. We need people to put pressure out to fix this dock and ramp quickly.
Also, how will this affect our fishing for the salmon derby and general Mid-channel bank fishing at Port Townsend?
Please spread the word to get the State Parks folks moving on this important water access point. For fishing , boating , and emergency use.
Thank you,
John Williamson
